CRISP, the Carbon Ratings InSight Platform, is our independent rating system. Every project is assessed through the same transparent process, so ratings are comparable across project types, standards and countries.

  2. Apply the AI-assisted algorithmThe project is rated out of 5 on each of the five criteria.
  3. Award the overall ratingThe average of those ratings, with a written justification for each.

  • Additionality

    Would the project have gone ahead anyway? If it was already viable without carbon finance, your money is not creating new climate impact.

  • Permanence

    How long does the reduction stay locked away, and what is the risk of reversal through fire, disease, felling or a change of land use?

  • Quantification

    Can the reductions be measured accurately and repeatably, under a methodology that stands up to independent verification?

  • Leakage

    Does protecting one hectare simply push the deforestation next door? Credible projects account for emissions displaced beyond their boundary.

  • ICVCM CCP status

    Whether the project’s methodology has been submitted, assessed and approved under the Core Carbon Principles.
